So Rand Paul wants to jack up production and sell it? And what would the price at the pump be here? Is cognitive dissonance a prerequisite for being a Tea Party asshole? Drill, baby, drill, so we can sell, baby, sell. But it will cost you, you freaking addled moron who thinks the Tea Party is regular people, to save the world from The Tea Party Better Man Than Obama Should Be President Of The United States. The Tea Party leaders don’t know a damn thing about drilling. It’s not like we can simply start building rigs and planting them all over the place. You need geologists, chemists, engineers, planning, and a geological area where hydrocarbons can be found to be accessible.

It takes time to map out the well sites. Time more to plan out the needed rig and directional drilling gear. Then there’s housing, cement, drilling mud, heavy equipment, construction, etc, etc, etc, etc all before the first drill bit makes the initial well bore. Followed by stabbing in the piping and cementing so the well doesn’t collapse. I’m a stark novice to whole oil industry but I at least know it would take years before we would see a return on any oil or natural gas produced.

Not to mention that drilling in every conceivable place doesn’t mean you’re going to be able to produce anything. The day I take advice on oil and gas production from Senator Paul is the day you can lock me up somewhere safe.

We also don’t have nearly enough of the needed oil tankers nor the LNG tankers that would be needed to supply Europe’s demand if they were cut off from the Russian supply. Sure, if they were ordered to be built with the government funding 24/7 shifts we could probably have a tiny handful in nine months or so…maybe.

Even then we would need European ports equipped to receive them and a large increase in overall European refining and road network distribution capacity.

In other words, It is simply another Wingnut talking point that has no actual possibility of affecting the current reality of our world in the slightest. Still, it will sound good to the utterly ignorant when Rush complains about us not doing it on his talk radio show. :(

Drill Baby Drill turns into Refine Baby Refine. It takes years to make a new refinery and most US refineries are at max capacity now.

But leave it to Rand Paul, though. He’ll Drill Baby Drill here and then ship unrefined oil (on what ships?) to some other country (whose refineries are also probably maxed out) and create (imaginary) Jobs Baby Jobs - outside of the US.

Republican logic defies reality at every step of the way.
